Birthday Celebrations

Hurrah, a new age bracket achieved and some rather wonderful presents received, including a pipe from Smiles to go with my old lady slippers: Lin (an artist, boater and friend) from Two 'N' Six painted some gardening tools for me. They are wonderful.
Rob bought me a basket for my bike and a horn that sounds suspiciously like there is a coot trapped inside. Look out for me along the tow paths as a whizz by! And I was also given a duck umbrella and a petunia. Oh, and chocolate... and a metal detector... and some bubbles...Spoilt? Moi? Yep.

Presents aside, the evening was spent in the company of many friends and some family and far too much alcohol. Somebody decided it was a good idea to get the guitar out and sing.

And the celebrations didn't end there. The next morning we were up early to travel to Portchester for a walk along the sea to take in the sights of Portsmouth

And back to chez Charlton for a medieaval birthday dinner:

Fish & Shrympes with Sauce Vert.

.....

Stekys of Bef

Wortes & Salat

.....

Mon Amy

Cheesecake

We ended the evening by getting terribly drunk.

I would have sent you something small for your garden, too, but since I have no idea if the last two packages I sent even reached you, I didn't dare.

Very nice presents. It sounds like a most excellent birthday.
And, hi, daddy Lewis! (How are your folks, Suz?)

Sounds wonderful! I've always been curious about life, living on a boat on the Thames. I wonder what treasures you find with the metal detector. Perhaps you will write a blogpost about it. I have a penchant for rusty old metal bits.

Eretria - Yes! your parcels did reach me. I tried to text you, but that didn't work so I'm sure I left a message via Midnight Tea. May be that failed me too as my phone isn't very good and times out far too quickly.
I'm sorry if I didn't get the message through and thank you. Bad me *slaps wrist*
There is no need to send me pressies though, just the birthday wishes will do me just fine!

Oh, the folks are fine. Mum has to have a cataract operation soon, but aside from that they are both good. How are your folks? I often think about them when I think of you and those balmy Berlin summer evenings!

Hello Robyn, I'm afraid the metal detecting didn't go so well. We tried it out on a coin and promptly lost it! Though there are tales on the riverbank that gold coins and iron age swords have been found in this town so perhaps we shouldn't give up just yet.
